Ship Design Project 


In the context of the completion of the undergraduate studies, the course "Theme of Study and Design of Ship" is included in the 7th  semester.  The elaboration of the Ship Design Project aims at the development of  the necessary methodological and critical skills of the graduate in dealing with design and ship design issues. Indicatively, based on the requirements of a potential shipowner and the national / international safety regulations (construction and operation), it is requested to  prepare the complete preliminary design of a selected type of ship,  which includes all the necessary data (calculations and plans), as required in level of approval by Classification Societies or other Authorities, or for a contract between a shipowner and a shipyard.

The students are working in pairs. The questions that they are asked to answer are the following:
1. Selection of main dimensions and form factors
2. Preliminary propulsion power estimation
3. Weight calculation of fully equipped but unloaded ship
4. Preliminary study of safety regulations with emphasis on stability
5. Load line regulation
6. Development of a lines plan and a preliminary general arrangement
plan
7. Stability & Loading Conditions Calculations
8. International Tonnage
9. Resistance calculation, selection and design of propeller and rudder
10. Midship plan
11. Shear forces and bending moments in calm water and waves
12. Cost estimation

PC Lab


The Personal Computer Laboratory supports the educational process both undergraduate and postgraduate of the School.

It is used for teaching and practical training regarding courses that require the use of a computer.
It provides specialized software for aiding students to complete their training and exercises.
It supports the elaboration of diploma theses and the research work of doctoral candidates.
It provides the faculty members with computer support for their teaching and research obligations.
It provides students with internet access.
It is available for training seminars of special interest for students.
